Kohl’s Cares® partners with Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH)
Did you know that when you purchase $5 books or stuffed animals from Kohl’s Department Store in Carbondale that the money stays locally? Through Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, funds received through the Kohl’s Cares ®program is used to educate local school students and their families about the importance of physical activity and healthy eating for a lifetime of wellness.
The Kohl’s Movers and Shakers program is a complimentary program to a larger, regional coordinated school health programming effort focused on increasing physical activity levels of school age children through physical education curriculum and education targeting their families.
Physical education programs strive to incorporate lifelong wellness concepts into the curriculum, highlighting activities that encourage purposeful movement at a moderate to vigorous level, incorporate technology for asses sment and activity choices and encouraging physical activity during family time. Additionally, the Kohl’s Movers and Shakers program encourages physical education programs to collaborate at a greater level with the classroom and food service staff to ensure consistent health messages throughout the school environment.
